A BIRD DISCOVERED IN COLOMBIA
October 9, 2006, 8:24
A colourful new bird was discovered in Bogota, Colombia in an unexplored cloud forest said conservation groups on Monday.
The bright red and yellow-crowned bird was named the “Yariguies Brush-finch” after the indigenous tribe that was once inhabited in the mountainous area where the bird was discovered. For conservationists, the discovery of the Yariguies Brush-finch came at a very bad time, the government had set aside five hundred (500) acres of the forest where the bird lives, to create a national park. “The bird was discovered in what is the last remnants of cloud forest in that region.” Camila Gomez, member of Colombia’s conservation group said on Monday. “There are still a lot of flora and fauna species that are undiscovered that lice in the area.” The small bird can be distinguished from its closest relative- the yellow-breasted brush-finch- by its solid black back and the lack of white marks on its wings. Thomas Donegan, the person who discovered the bird in January, 2004, said on Monday, “There are about two to three new birds found in the world every year. It is a very rare event.”
The new finch, the size of a fist, is considered, by its discoverers, to be near-threatened and in need of close monitoring to prevent it from becoming endangered.

SUPERMODEL IS ACCUSED OF HELPING THE ‘COCAINE CURSE’ OF COLOMBIA
November 2, 2006
Kate Moss, a supermodel has been asked by the police to return to the United Kingdom to answer questions about her supposed drug abuse.
The Vice President of Colombia has accused kate Moss, a model, and other celebrities of helping Colombia’s drug war.
Cocaine ads that said, “Cocaine not only destroys you, it also destroys a country” were set up on November 1. Kate Moss wasn’t in any of the ads, but she was photographed snorting the drug, which "would’ve been a good example," says Francisco Santos, Vice President of Colombia.
Francisco also says, “To me it’s baffling that somebody who helps cause so much pain in Colombia, and even the world, is doing better than ever and winning more contracts than ever, and she never said once ‘I’m sorry.’ When workers everyday are dying from drug-related atmospheres. We need to tell Europeans that the coke they snort is smeared in blood.

IS THERE REALLY SUCH A THING AS TOO MUCH RAIN?
(This current event is fiction, I made this up in order to complete this certain assignment)
August 3, 12:45pm
Rain pours down, and the citizens of Bogota, Colombia are asking, “ Is this rain ever going to end?” Roads are flooded and visibility outside is impossible. Houses are flooded and falling, and pieces of shingles and siding are coming down constantly.
What seemed like a good, sunny day on August 3rd deceived the citizens of Colombia from the forecasts predicted and the early, warm day. When the kids were out playing in the streets at lunch time and the parents were mowing their lawn is when the storm hit.
The first few drops of rain came down lightly, but in a few minutes it was so bad that nobody could see a foot in front of them.
After the rain finally stopped the Colombian citizens were in a state of shock. Their peaceful town was and still is a dump which needs fixing up fast.
Some kids play in the streets, having water fights, not realizing what had just happened. Some kids are in the hospital with their parents, knowing the tragedy and the horror that had just happened. Injuries from the rain, vary from minor cuts and bruises, to injuries that would damage their life forever.
Even though the outcome of the storm is horrible we, as Colombian citizens, will stand strong and repair all that we can.
